Mission
Statement:
Our Mission is to offer a blues educational program for school aged children
in our region which is dedicated to the preservation of blues music as
a traditional American art form.
Proposal:
Our program, through a series of presentations and performances by local,
regional and national blues musicians, historians and teachers, is directed
toward promoting personal excellence, social responsibility, respect
for ethnic diversity and community involvement through the power of
music, celebrity influence, and business community support. It is intended
to help bridge the geographic, racial, cultural and socio-economic differences
that often cause social tension and conflict. This project also aims
to help raise the self esteem and mutual respect of the participants,
nurturing personal growth and appreciation of diversity. It will also
help to instill a sense of pride, musical potential and accomplishment
among the participants.
Objectives:
· Provide education and entertainment
· Instill a love for music
· Help to develop individual self esteem
· Enhance students' creativity
· Increase thinking and problem solving ability (Scientific
studies have proven that music actually assists and
amplifies tasks involving complex reasoning)
· Promote cross-cultural understanding
· Motivate students to strive for personal excellence
· Improve school attendance and promote skills to pursue
constructive after school hobbies
· Provide information for future career opportunities
· Provide information on Blues history
· Provide avenues through which underprivileged children
can acquire musical instruments
· Provide understanding of how all modern American music
has evolved from Blues music (i.e. Jazz, Rock, R &
B, Rap, etc.)
· Provide hands-on workshops
· Provide kids with a healthy form of creative expression
to help steer them away from drugs and gangs.
Support:
The first Blues in the Schools program was started by Legendary Chicago
blues musician Billy Branch over 16 years ago in Chicago. It is now
a nationally recognized program whose success has inspired blues societies
across the nation to create their own versions. Their success has been
due in large part to corporate, small business and private sponsorships,
as well as community involvement. In turn, the Walla Walla Blues Society's
program can only succeed through business and community support. As
you know, any successful business takes dedication, hard work and perseverance
to flourish. We at the Walla Walla Blues Society have these attributes
in abundance. Your support is crucial to the success our program
through financial or other donations, joining the WWBS and becoming
involved, as well as coming out to support WWBS sponsored events. Please
contact us to help further this program and the children of our communities
with your pledge of support.
